Inkjet Vs. Laser Printing: How It Works

Inkjet Printer 1

Inkjet Printer

Our inkjet printers work by spraying, or injecting, tiny droplets of ink onto the packaging. The print head does not touch the packaging material. Inkjet printing is commonly used for paper-based labels and flexible packaging like pouches.

Laser Printer

Laser Printer

Our laser printers focus beams of light to etch the surface of your shisha packaging. This technology produces high-precision, durable markings that are ideal for metallic, plastic, and even glass containers.

Shisha Product Printing Solutions

At Shishapack, our laser and inkjet printers help you meet the demands of modern shisha tobacco production. The details they print are essential for product tracking, compliance, and brand recognition.

FAQ

There is some concern about what kind of hazard printer ink presents to the environment. Printer ink contains harmful chemicals including hazardous air pollutants (HAP), heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds (VOC). These are released into the atmosphere during the printing process. For environmentally friendly options, you can opt for eco-friendly inks, recycle your used cartridges, or choose a laser printing machine.

Generally speaking, ink is not toxic to the skin, although people with sensitive skin may get a reaction. Ink should not be inhaled and never ingested. You should always ensure your machinery operators are dressed in appropriate PPE.

The cost advantages are unclear because there are many variables involved, including maintenance, efficiency, and machine life. While laser printers have a higher initial cost, inkjet printers require additional ongoing costs for ink and solvents.

Continuous Inkjet (CIJ)
Our continuous inkjet printers eject a continuous stream of charged ink droplets through the nozzle which are then deflected and positioned using an electric field. The deflected drops are returned to the system to avoid waste.

Drop-On-Demand Inkjet (DOD)
Our DOD inkjet printers use a simpler technology that involves ejecting ink droplets only on demand, i.e. discontinuous. The ink bubbles explode when they reach the packaging surface which creates the desired image or text.

DOD Classifications
Within drop-on-demand (DOD), there are three subcategories of printing methods and machines. Thermal inkjet printers flash heat the ink, electrostatic printers balance surface tension and electric field, and piezo printers apply a voltage through a crystal to eject ink.
